A PART OF ST. LOUIS SINCE 1956

Who We Are

Wespine Study Center is a supplementary educational center in St. Louis which sponsors programs emphasizing character development, leadership, and service for high school and college students in the St. Louis metro area. Wespine’s programs are based on a Christian view of life that recognizes the inherent goodness of the created world, the value of human work and the God-given moral law. This Christian orientation is entrusted to Opus Dei, a personal prelature of the Catholic Church.

Our Philosophy

Below are some of our founding principles:

Character

Wespine’s goal is to help students develop for themselves a wide range of intellectual and moral virtues.  Through various activities at Wespine, students come to know themselves better and learn how to put these virtues into practice.  Thus, they are better prepared for the great challenges in front of them: forming a family, serving society through their work, and developing friendships with colleagues, neighbors, and God.

Work

Work well done is both a benefit to the one working and a service to others.  In order to impart this vision of work to young men, many of our programs allow them to meet and hear from experienced professional men who are willing to pass on advice and insight gained in the course of their life’s work.

Study

Serious, in-depth study helps young men acquire wisdom, develops their work habits, teaches them how to communicate and prepares them for their career.  We encourage students in their studies through week-night study halls, advice on reading, academic and character classes, and personal mentoring.

Service

An essential aspect of being a man fully alive is learning to forget about oneself and to think about others.  The Center offers a variety of projects and opportunities where men can learn how to serve and sacrifice themselves in small ways for others.

Relationship between Parents and Mentors

Parents, the primary educators of their children, want them to become competent, responsible, considerate, and generous adults who are committed to live by Christian principles.  Wespine’s role is simply to help parents in this same long-term ideal.

An integral aspect of the spirit imparted by Wespine comes through contact with the Center’s experienced and dedicated staff, providing young men with the example and moral support they need.  Through one-on-one mentoring, the students learn how to find concrete applications of the principles taught in classes.
